Will Run for Beer: Beer Runs and Marathons
A Calendar of Beer Dashes, Beer Runs and Beer Marathons
Beer runner is a term coined by Tim Cigelske, a runner and writer for Draft Magazine, which he defines as:
Beer Run•ner (noun): 1. Someone equally devoted to fine beer appreciation and an active, healthy lifestyle 2. A blog by Tim Cigelske on Draftmag.com. Ex. “John downed four microbrews at the triathlon finish line. He’s a total beer runner.”
You’ll want to check out Tim’s blog if you like running and beer. There’s a full calendar of weekly beer-themed running clubs.
In pulling this together, we connected with Alan McCormick, who keeps busy running the Growler Fills Blog and helping promote Run Wild Missoula beer running events. Plus he’s co-creator of Missoula Craft Beer Week (April 27 – May 3, 2014).
“Run Wild Missoula has really embraced the beer/running pairing. Its beer run on the Friday of [Missoula] marathon weekend regularly pulls in hundreds. Its monthly fun beer runs average 50 to 80 people,” says Alan. This same enthusiasm for running and beer can be seen in events across the country.
You can also check out some interesting articles on the topic of running and beer. Runner’s World carried a beer run article exploring whether beer is good for runners. Even NYT has covered the topic with an article called Runners Who Love Beer.
Did we miss any runs? Got updates? Let us know in the comments section and we’ll happily add (or update) your run to the calendar!
